What does ‘doing your bit’ mean to you?

I ‘do my bit’ by focusing on the things that matter to our young people. Being their friend, helping them develop their skills and confidence and supporting them to become young adults. I believe that developing a strong bond with the young people to help them get the most from JLGB is hugely important.

In life you have to acknowledge those who ‘did their bit’ for you on the way up. Giving back to JLGB is just as important as what I’ve gained from it. I’m giving back to an organisation which has given so much to me.

What have you gained from JLGB?

What haven’t I gained! I’ve grown massively as a person. I achieved extra GCSE equivalents in leadership skills which helped me beat 200 other applicants to a job at university. I’m more confident in speaking to people and I’m happier in my own skin. Overall, thanks to JLGB, I feel I am a more well rounded person.

Why should others volunteer?

So that they can gain just as much as I have from helping others to achieve their goals. The warm feeling you get from knowing you’ve made a difference is unmatched by anything else. Volunteering with JLGB opens up more doors than you could even begin to imagine. The positive people you meet, the network you develop, can help you discover your passion and give you the motivation to reach your goals.
