What does ‘doing your bit’ mean to you?

I’ve been involved with JLGB since I was a young kid and feel it has shaped my future. So, I’m doing my bit by passing on the skills I have learned. I’ve been able to use my experiences to put forward ideas and programmes that have really helped the children at my local group – ensuring they have the tools they need to help them become the best possible leaders for the future.

What have you gained from JLGB?

Mainly, I’ve gained confidence. Thanks to my time with JLGB I can contribute within group situations as well as lead in front of a group, which I really couldn’t do before. I’ve been taught essential leadership skills that have very much helped me in my life beyond JLGB. It’s also fantastically rewarding to volunteer by supporting younger people, knowing that I’m passing on my skills and also helping them to enjoy an fuller extracurricular life as well.

Why should others volunteer?

Because you’re changing not just other lives, but your own life too. Volunteering for JLGB means you’re making a difference to the future leaders of the community while making friends for life and gaining essential skills for your own education and career. For all you put in, you get so much more back in return.
